Privacy Policy

BulkMD is local-first by design. Web pages are converted to Markdown entirely inside your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored on a server, or shared with third parties.

Last updated · May 15, 2026v1.2.0
01

The short version

  • All page extraction and Markdown conversion runs locally inside your browser.
  • BulkMD sends no analytics, telemetry, or usage data anywhere.
  • The extension has no backend. There is nothing to log in to and no account to create.
  • Settings (extraction mode, concurrency, sleep time) live in Chrome's local storage and never leave your device.
02

What we don't collect

We do not collect or transmit personally identifiable information (PII), browsing history, cookies, IP addresses, credentials, or the content of pages you convert. BulkMD operates without any remote server — there is no place for your data to go even if we wanted it to.

03

Website content (during conversion)

To do its job, BulkMD reads the HTML, text, links, and layout of the pages you explicitly choose to convert — either the active tab (single-page) or the list of URLs you paste into the bulk dashboard. This content is processed in memory inside your browser and is only persisted as long as the dashboard tab is open. Closing or refreshing the dashboard discards the results.

04

Local settings storage

We use chrome.storage.local to remember your preferences (extraction mode, parallel processing limit, sleep delay, auto-close behavior). This data stays inside your Chrome profile and is never synchronized to our servers.

05

Permissions, in plain English

  • activeTab · scripting — to read the page you ask us to convert.
  • tabs — to open, monitor, and (optionally) close the background tabs used during bulk runs.
  • downloads — to save your Markdown files (or a ZIP of them) to your computer.
  • storage — to remember your preferences locally.
  • host_permissions (<all_urls>) — required so the bulk processor can open whatever URLs you paste into the queue.
06

Third-party websites

BulkMD converts content from sites you choose to visit. Their own privacy policies apply to that content. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the practices of those third parties.

07

Children's privacy

BulkMD is a general-purpose developer tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.

08

Changes to this policy

If we materially change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, note the change in the next extension release. Continued use of BulkMD after an update means you accept the revised policy.
